Laurel Falls in the Cherokee National Forest off the Appalachian Trail - (not the Laurel Falls in the Smoky Mountains) - was one the first waterfalls I hiked to when I moved back to Northeast Tennessee. It is one of my favorite hikes to do - I believe I have been here the most out of any other hike I have done!
I have been trying to pursue the 52 Hike Challenge, regardless of what life throws my way. I was hoping to be at least on hike 4 or 5 by now but things come up and change the plans - my final semester of college started this week and the juggling of motherhood and work makes my plate a little heavy!
My boyfriend - Josh, and son - Noah, decided to join my hike to the falls this past Sunday - 01.15.23, making it my second hike out of the 52 I need to complete! It was very cold if you could not tell by our apparel and the snow/ice on the ground.
We took our time going down the flight of rock stairs that leads you to the waterfall due to the amount of snow and ice that covered them. If you happen to be new to this hike, just know the rock stair leading down to the waterfall is the most strenuous.
We did go later in the afternoon which led to us traveling back to our car in the dark. Of course, it gets darker earlier during this time of year but we were enjoying the sound and view of the falls, trying to capture pictures and videos while we were there - making memories!
The boys do not normally hike like I do, especially in the type of weather we were in so I decided we should all get some hot cocoa and donuts on the way home - obviously, I did not eat any donuts because of my gluten allergy but they enjoyed them.
I normally enjoy hiking by myself with my ankle biter, Harley...she did go too, btw - but it is fun to enjoy what I love with the people I love. Plus, I love going anywhere that has a beautiful waterfall.
Sorry TLC, but I will always chase the waterfalls!
