It's the beginning of a brand new year, a brand new chapter of life. I have put my 2023 resolutions out there but there is one challenge I definitely want to accomplish by the end of this year - the 52 Hike Challenge.
I have seen friends throughout the years take on this challenge and complete it. I feel as if I have recovered enough of the years to be able to FINALLY complete this challenge.
What is the 52 Hike Challenge?
A challenge where you complete 52 hikes in a year's time (preferably one per week).
What is the purpose of the challenge?
To get you outside and explore nature. To recharge your mind. To burn calories and increase energy levels. To boost memory and concentration. To gain mental awareness.
Why are you taking the challenge?
I have been hiking for many years. In 2019, I had to undergo many brain surgeries where I lost mobility in the lower half of my body. Since then, I have been able to gain mobility and I want to continue to keep my strength and endurance up to par. Unfortunately, my knees could regress so this is a hobby that helps me physically and mentally.
Aren't you afraid to hike alone with your condition?
Honestly, no. I research where I am going beforehand. I always give someone my location via 'Find My' on my iPhone. I pack the essentials that I will need for my hike. I also trust my instincts and I do carry tools/gear to protect me.
Being out in nature helps me, mentally and physically. With overcoming trauma, hiking is an outlet. Over the last couple of years of my recovery, I saw a few friends take on this challenge and complete it - therefore, I wanted to attempt this challenge as well!
With that being said, I hope you all stick around and maybe, cheer me on with this challenge. You can even start this challenge as well! It is never too late - all you have to do is complete 52 hikes in 52 weeks.
If you would like to sign up, it is FREE with merch available to purchase as well - just click on this link: 52 Hike Challenge!
So, let's do this! If you happen to know of any great hikes, please comment below so I can possibly add them to my bucket list!
With love,
